Kissel Uptown Oakland
At Kissel Uptown Oakland, stay in the core of the city’s most vibrant district, Uptown, the center of an eclectic arts and entertainment scene. Our story and this hotel honor the city’s past by celebrating a thriving Oakland of the present. This restored and reimagined building embraces the neighborhood’s history and spirit with grand Beaux-Arts architecture—towering columns, locally-commissioned artworks, bold décor, and plentiful natural light.
Here, guests are steps away from entertainment, shopping, dining and gathering spaces for the city’s ardent innovators, artists, and mavericks. We’re adjacent to the diverse restaurants and venues at The Hive, and a short walk from Art Deco landmarks like the Fox Theater.
Open the door to your room at Kissel Uptown Oakland and discover an urban oasis with bold colors and inventive design at every turn. Works from local artists adorn the walls, while wood and marble furnishings showcase an eclectic yet tasteful sensibility.
Feeling hungry? Head up to the rooftop of the Kissel Uptown Oakland to drink in views of a bustling Broadway street while sampling creative cocktails and refined American cuisine at the HIGH 5IVE lounge. Or, stop by the lobby for a specialty coffee and a morning snack inside the energizing space of Otto’s Café—then head out to explore a lively Uptown District.

- Cross the iconic Bay Bridge and stop at Treasure Island in the middle of the Bay, built for the 1939 World`s Fair. From there the skyline views of The City are jaw-dropping and a perfect photo stop. Finish crossing the span to drive along the magnificent, palm lined Embarcadero, past the Ferry Building, up Broadway through North Beach to Ghirardelli Square and the famous cable car turn around across from The Buena Vista Café, the home of the Irish Coffee. The group will board the Hyde Street Line and be dazzled by the fun ride up and down the hills, past beautiful villas, quaint Victorian homes, and end up at Union Square.
- The tour continues with a drive to the top of Nob Hill where many famous hotels are situated with magnificent Grace Cathedral nearby. A splendid copy of Notre Dame in Paris, the stained glass windows here also shed beautiful patterns across the granite floors. Weekly organ concerts welcome guests from near and far. The green area is often used for civic events, rallies and sports celebrations. Next stop will be Alamo Square, home to one of the most recognized areas of the City. The Painted Ladies have been featured in all kinds of travel promotions, tv shows and commercials. From there is another vantage point of the impressive skyline.
- Driving through the Hippie-era neighborhood of Haight-Ashbury, the tour continues up to Twin Peaks from which on a clear day will allow one to see 80 miles in any direction! A photo stop at Vista point will allow for some great shots and many memories. Right in front will be the Bay and, on the right, the Pacific Ocean.
